Lenham Wanderers vs Marden Minors
Both of the games I have documented this season have by coincidence been Kent Junior Cup games. This is no bad thing it turns out because it truly looks like I am a lucky charm. Lenham ground out a great 1-0 win against a side that had given them a good beating away from home last season by all accounts.
Fortunately, player manager Dan Russell was back from his trip to Anfield a couple of weeks ago and led the line with all the energy of a 20 year old until his exit with 10 minutes to go. Actually, whilst we are talking about substitutions there is something interesting to note about them this season. In the non-league game they are now roll on, roll off, which has only ever been seen in pre-season friendlies before. It’s designed to encourage more players to stay in the game, because there is nothing worse than standing on the sidelines in a freezing cold field in December when you could be sat by a fire in the pub. In my humble opinion a really good move by the footballing law makers.
Apart from the win, this game will always be memorable for two reasons, the ref got taken out with a ball to the face (you have to laugh) and then so did a small boy! The little Marden supporter was having a game of footy of his own by the sidelines when his ball rolled onto the pitch. A Marden player then, without looking, kicked the ball back and it hit the mini Messi square in the face. This of course was followed by tears and the customary sweeties in order to calm the poor lad down. This was made all the worse as it was a member of my own family who was the perpetrator!! Jamie, you are a bad, bad, man. Shame your passing on the pitch wasn’t as accurate 🙂
I’m loving this project and the brilliant documentary photographs I am managing to record along the way. If you like the images, pin them, like them and share them with the world…please.
