Roisin and Brad at The Old Kent Barn
It was my very first visit to THE OLD KENT BARN for Roisin and Brad’s royal wedding. It’s a great venue less than ten minutes’ drive through the countryside from the historic Cathedral City of Canterbury.
Outside the venue there is a fairly rustic looking sign (see below, really like that by the way people of The Old Kent Barn) and a gravel farm track, so I thought the venue was going to be quite rustic in feel (it has ‘Barn’ in the name after all), it is anything but. The venue is manicured to within an inch of its life! It’s clear to see why huge numbers of brides and grooms pick this gorgeous place to get married in every year, and almost all of the weddings are held in the beautiful gardens.
I first met Roisin and Brad a year ago when we did a holi powder engagement shoot on my neighbours farm. They had great energy and a very clear love for each other which helped us create some of my favourite images from the last year. Make sure you check out their ENGAGEMENT SHOOT BLOG about that day once you’ve finished this one. So I was delighted to be asked to photograph their wedding for them.
Their day started with the usual wedding morning pampering, which was actually provided by the radiant Mrs H, the best hair and make-up artist in Kent by the way. Check her out at PRETTY PLEASE BY KATIE, we are the wedding dream team. The Old Kent Barn has a room specifically set up for the morning preparations, which means as the bride you can relax and not have to worry about getting from venue to venue on the day.
I will forever remember this wedding morning for two reasons. The first was because I heard some words I never thought I would hear whilst at a wedding, “I’ve got no knickers on under my dress” said one of the bridal party. I shall leave you to guess which one it was, but it wasn’t the bride, bridesmaids or mother of the bride. The second reason to remember it was for the contents of the present box Brad had made for Roisin. It wouldn’t be gentlemanly to tell you what it was, but she knew that she was onto a sure thing on their first night as husband and wife.
After Events Manager Kylie Christie, got Team Bride ready and into their dresses it was time for the ceremony. Brad was looking very dapper in his navy blue suit until a bird flew overhead and decided to empty its load down his shoulder, annoyingly I missed this so there is no photographic evidence. Once cleaned up it was on with the show, and after a few tears from Brad, Roisin was stood by his side in her Essence of Australia dress from ISABELLA GRACE BRIDAL in Tunbridge Wells. The pair of them looking like stunning models out of a bridal catalogue, this pair are going to have some good looking kids that’s for sure.
For the rest of the day the sun shone, the kids played in the beautiful gardens, Brad got a Krispy Kreme in his face, some of the male guests got overly excited playing wedding pong and everyone danced the night away to the sounds of FOX AND BRACES, the coolest DJ team around.
If you want to see the photofilm from the day shoot on over to my WEDDING PORTFOLIO, you can also see a load more weddings over there too, and GET IN TOUCH if you are getting married at The Old Kent Barn or other equally amazing wedding venue.
