I Love This Photo, Number 13
Colour, movement and fun are the three reasons why I love this sequence of photos of this nimble footed groom as he kicks into action following his first dance. You could say he has moves like Jagger.
This Mick Jagger wannabe is Daryl who married the lovely Karen at THE MULBERRY TREE in Kent last summer. We all know what the main purpose of a wedding is all about of course, but the real fun starts in the early evening when everyone can let their hair down, relax after the nervousness of the ceremony and the speeches, and crack on with the dancing and in many cases the heavy drinking…not that I am suggesting you are a heavy drinker Daryl!
More often than not I will hang around after the first dance to take a few action shots as the wedding party glide onto the dancefloor. I make sure I have my trusty 24mm lens on my camera and get in very close to the action. For me there is only one way to get great dancing photos and that is from a low position, usually on my knees or even lying down if the mood takes me, to make sure I can get the best angles for those action shots. When you view the photos afterwards they give you the feeling that you were at the party and hopefully put a little smile on your face.
As with any photo there is an element of luck, and the DJ’s lights switching colour in every frame helped me to create this great set of images Daryl and Karen. I’m proud of them, so much so they have even made it into my wedding brochure.
